About Us
Who are we?
We are a group of 20 young people and 10 leaders from both the Ebor and Minster district of York. We come from a variety of different backgrounds and will all be at least 16 at the time of the expedition. All of us are either Explorers or leaders who want a new challenge in our Scouting lives.
What are we doing?
We will be travelling to a remote region of Malawi in order to renovate a crucial healthcare facility. The David Gordon Memorial Hospital in Livingstonia provides the only medical service for miles for 45,000 people and is in desperate need of refurbishment. We will spend 3 weeks in Malawi carrying out crucial maintenance on the hospital and aiding the development of a Scout group in the area.
Surely that's going to cost a lot!
Yes it is! the trip is costing each participant £1500 (the bulk of which being for plane tickets) We also have to raise money for equipment and materials which will cost us several thousands of pounds. We are holding lots of fundraising events to help with the cost. If you wish to sponsor our expedition, or you know somebody who does, then please visit the donate page. Remember, donations do not have to be just financial, we may be able to make use of your expertise, time or contacts!
Do you want to know more?
If you want to know more about the expedition then please don't hesitate to contact us. If you are involved in Scouting and would like to get your group more involved then, time permitting, we will be more than happy to come down to one of your weekly meetings and run activities with your members. Perhaps it could be tied in with a badge?
